How to Stay Motivated at Work

Last night on Instagram I said that “I’m doing what teachers do best-learning.” This week, I have been given the opportunity to participate in some awesome professional development for work. I’ve been so excited to get to deepen my knowledge about some of our curriculum, while at the same time I’m asking myself “Why am I giving up part of my summer to work?!” Today I’m getting personal- I’m sharing all about how I stay engaged, excited, and motivated at work.

One of the reasons I am so willing to participate in work events during my vacation is because I still consider myself a student. I consider myself a student because I have an intrinsic motive and desire to continue to learn. I enjoy learning new ideas and strategies that I can apply to my job the next day. Another part of my drive comes from being competitive. I believe in order to achieve success you need to continuously be learning and trying new things. This also prevents me from "settling" or getting to comfortable at doing something performance based on the job.

Lately, because I have been on summer vacation with a very relaxed schedule I have been struggling with time management. Seriously, the lack of structure totally messed with my routines and as a result I have been struggling with time management- which is a big part of why I didn’t have a blog post ready on Monday—ahh! So in order to get myself back on track I’m doing some of my tried and true favorite strategies that help my stay on task. To stay focused I: shut my phone off, set timers, turn the TV off (I try not to watch tv during the week because it takes up a lot of my time and is very distracting) and instead, I listen to calming music.

I'd love for you to leave a comment below with the strategies you use to stay motivated and assist with time management.

PS-- the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale starts tomorrow so be sure to check the blog tomorrow!
