Anyone else dread the three longest months of the year: January, February, and March. I always feel like these months test my patience. It's always super cold, gets dark out by 5pm, and there's not a lot going on. I don't mind the chill of December because it's full of holiday cheer and supposed to be cold. But then comes winter and it just feels so dreary. I miss the leaves on the trees and the warmth. However; we were SO lucky over the weekend to have some unexpectedly warm weather. It was such a treat.

Unfortunately, we don't usually get weather like this, so I'm sharing my tips for avoiding the post-holiday /winter blues.

Go for a walk.
Even though it can be freezing outside, bundle up, and go for a walk. Getting your heart rate up will naturally help keep your body warmer too. It's easy to make excuses to avoid walking, so make it an event and having a partner to walk with will help keep your more accountable. B and I have been trying to make a nightly ritual of walking in the evenings. We don't go far, but just enough to get some fresh air and stay active.

Read a book.
Opt for passing on the remote and grab a book instead. Watching tv is mindless, and doesn't help you calm down or exert energy. I grew up not being able to watch tv during the school/work week and I became an avid reader. Since adulting and living on my own, I found myself being distracted by technology and the tv. It would start out as putting it on in the background while I was making dinner or folding laundry, basically any household chore and I noticed two things: It took longer to get things done and I was reading less. So, during those winter months, grab your cozy clothes and settle in with a good book.

Organize & Clean.
This is a great time to tackle that drawer, closet, room, whatever it may be that you've been avoiding cleaning. During the summer, I really avoid tasks that require me to stay indoors so now is the time to get organized and set up for the year. I'm looking forward to organizing my closet one evening. One of the books I mentioned before and is on my Friday Five list for January is to reread this book. It's helpful for me to clean with intention.

Plan something.
Just because the holidays are over, doesn't mean you can't still have people over. Chances are, your friends are looking for things to do as well. It also doesn't have to be anything big or stressful. Just this past weekend, someone from my book club texted us all to grab coffee. It was spontaneous and SO much fun! It was so nice to get together with everyone and just catch up for an hour or two.

Lastly,
Start a hobby.
I started this blog years ago one wintery day. I HAD no idea what I was doing. It wasn't going to be perfect (it still isn't), but I was ready to get started & sharing my ideas and love of fashion with whoever wanted to read it! So whatever it is, you've been thinking about doing, JUST. DO. IT!
I believe in you.
